The benefits of chewing well
There is a very popular statement about the positive effect of chewing food thoroughly. It turns out that this natural process in life requires a good practice. One of the positive reasons for doing so is the relationship you have with regard to the feeling of satiety. When you chew food thoroughly, increases satiety and thus consume less. Moreover, the digestion was performed in a complete way.
In almost every diet, eat slowly and chew food thoroughly. A study in Harbin Medical University in China, decided to do further analysis to confirm if this really is, and even if you grind more food aid in some way to digest. For this, we asked two groups of men who chew 15 to 40 times every bite, respectively, and found that ‘entertaining’ the food in your mouth for 40 bites of food consumption and therefore, was 11 calories , 9% lower than when chewed only 15 times.
Moreover, according to the results, which were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers found that more chewing is associated with lower blood levels of a hormone called ghrelin, which stimulates appetite, and higher levels of another hormone called cholecystokinin, or CCK, which seems to reduce it. Other variables such as the amount of sugar or insulin levels showed no changes.
Possible explanations for this phenomenon, the authors suggest that better food grinding would take nutrients more efficiently into the bloodstream, which affect hormone secretion and intestinal digestive and absorptive processes.
The process of digestion begins even before we put the food in the mouth. Do not feel you start to salivate when you see, smell or you imagine one of your favorite foods or when you are hungry? Thus, saliva is prepared to start the digestion, which lasts about 20 hours after eating.
Why so? For foods that are the source of energy for our bodies, they begin a long journey around the digestive system, composed of various organs including the stomach and intestine. There, food is being processed and the body is taking all the necessary nutrients they provide energy to cells and substances need to function.
But food can do any of these things have to be digested into small pieces the body can absorb and use. Hence the importance of mastication, which is the process by which we tear, cut and grind food in preparation for swallowing (to swallow).
Furthermore, chewing allows enzymes and lubricants secreted (produced) into the mouth facilitate digestion. That is also why it is so important to maintain good oral health. Having healthy teeth not only lets you maintain a beautiful smile, but also chewing and processing foods without problems, to aid digestion.
