Care workers in general must be responsible individuals who truly enjoy caring for other peoples critical needs. The relationships that can develop from providing long term medical and social care require a degree of professionalism not found in many other careers jobs.

Professional care workers, especially those involved in domiciliary care, become deeply involved in every movement and aspect of a clients life and being able to remain objective and provide judgments and decisions that need to be emotionally detached from the patient can be a struggle.

Not only do you need to be proficient at the main care job and all that it entails, you need to have a clear mind and sound judgment to be able to deal so closely with a persons day to day life on such a close intimate basis. That is why a good qualified care worker is so valuable and sought after in the U.K. Job market and why salary packages have seen steady growth.

Many care worker decide to take the position one step further and take the necessary training to become social workers. It is a natural path for a care worker to take since the skills learned and used in social care are a good foundation for social work in general. Social care deals more with helping clients adapt to the their surrounding world as either their health or age limits their ability to cope and deal with even the simplest daily activities. It differs from general care work in that many times medical assistance is not even a part of the care these individuals may need.
