WEIGHT LOSSAll herbal stimulants have anthraquinones in composition, which acts on the colon by increasing intestinal motility by direct action on the nerve endings of mucosal irritation or intraneural activity on the nerve plexus. This effect is manifested in the 8-12 hours after administration. It should be administered for periods longer than two weeks. The most significant stimulant plants of this group are:

Cascara Sagrada (Rhamnus purshiana). (Not for sale and their preparations).
Frangula (Rhamnus frangula)
Sen (Cassia angustifolia)

Stimulant laxative and Cascara Sagrada

The cascara sagrada is derived from the bark of the branches and trunk of the tree Rhamnus purshiana. The bark is cut into small pieces that are left to dry for at least a year before using it as a medicinal plant, and is sold in liquid or tablet form. The fresh bark contains a poisonous substance called ramnotoxina that can cause vomiting and cramps.

The cascara sagrada is a plant widely used in medicine and herbal laxative purposes, but is consumed, sometimes too easily as an adjunct to diet to treat indigestion and constipation in general in particular.Anthraquinone glycosides are the main components of the plant, responsible for cholagogue and laxative effect (low dose) or cathartic (if using higher doses). His intense laxative effect is due to the combination of active principles, and is therefore noted for its powerful laxative properties to accelerate intestinal transit as a result of intense bowel movements.
